Our Company History

Having had multiple years’ experience as an entrepreneur in the North Florida area, Steve Briscoe teamed up with a fellow entrepreneur and musician, James “Andy” Temple to create a music store for North Florida musicians.  What better to name this new creation than 1st Street Music.  After all, it was located on 1st Street and the newly named business would be first in the yellow pages because its name was “1st”.

The duo decided to add Daniel “Danny” Garbett in 2003.  Danny brought years of experience in music retail as well as live audio and lighting. After adding Danny, 1st Street Music became 1st Street Music & Sound Company through the addition of custom installation and live lighting and audio production.

The company continued to grow and was able to provide sound & lighting for the Suwannee River Jam and many other national acts.  Along with the growth of live lighting & audio, the company began working with many area churches and businesses installing lighting and audio.

Feeling a need to help cultivate future musicians, Tammy Garbett joined the team in 2008 to coordinate the lesson program.  Equipped with multiple years music retail and private music studio experience, Tammy worked to expand the lesson program.

In the fall of 2011, the music store and lesson program were bursting at the seams and the store moved 2 doors down to its present location of over 13,000 square feet complete with showroom, lesson studios and warehouse.

Ready to slow down and enjoy life, Steve Briscoe decided to retire from the business in 2015 and sold 1st Street Music & Sound Company to long time employees, Danny and Tammy Garbett.  1st Street music continues to expand in installation and live production by teaming up with major manufacturers and conventions taking our skills nationwide.
